While chalcedony is often used as a general term to describe microcrystalline quartz, in a strict sense chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline form of silica, composed of very fine inter-growths of quartz and moganite. Chalcedony has a waxy luster and may be semitransparent or translucent.
In healing terms, chalcedony is said to be a nurturing stone that absorbs negative energy.
